Z.Z. Packer’s collection of short stories Drinking Coffee Elsewhere has been one of the most interesting compilation of stories that readers have come across till date. He has dealt with variety of subjects here including race and gay relationships which has raised many eyebrows in the past. This essay will dig deeper about the hidden meanings behind one of the short stories from this collection known as “The ant of the Self.” It deals with two main characters, one father and his son, and their unpleasant relationship.
